Crime Victims Rights & Assessment Revenue

The Crime Victims Rights program administers assessment revenue of more than $5 million collected from convicted defendants by Michigan courts. Funds are disbursed to Michigan's 83 prosecuting attorneys, to support implementation of P.A. 87 of 1985, the Crime Victims Rights Act. This act provides comprehensive, mandatory rights for crime victims to participate in trial and to be notified of all pertinent proceedings in the criminal justice system for their case. Prosecutors receive more than $3.5 million annually to implement and maintain these comprehensive case management duties. Revenue in excess of that disbursed for local victims rights is used to pay victim compensation claims.
