What You Can Do
|
Kentucky Women's Crisis CenterWHAT YOU CAN DO VOLUNTEERS The agency began due to the efforts of eight volunteers and one paid staff person. Today volunteers are available 24-hours a day to transport victims to one of the agency's two domestic violence shelters. Volunteers also provide hospital and advocacy support and information to victims of rape and sexual assault. The agency offers three (3) initial 40-hour trainings for new volunteers. The Director of Public Education and Volunteers offers support and coordination for a strong volunteer effort of over 100 volunteers and strategizes to find additional volunteer service opportunities. She also provides supervision and feedback opportunities for volunteers by offering a regular forum to volunteers for debriefing after advocacy efforts, and keeps volunteers updated on upcoming trainings, legislative proposals, and new volunteer opportunities. Volunteers provide rape victims with resource information during the emergency room visit at the time of the initial victimization and provide advocacy and emotional support during court proceedings. The Women's Crisis Center also receives the interest and support of individuals and businesses in the community as volunteers for special projects and events that enable Women's Crisis Center to provide quality services.
